Empowerment Through Safety: How Get Personal is Changing Lives in North East Lincolnshire

Founder: Shannon Donnelly
Location: Grimsby, North East Lincolnshire
Focus: Legal safety products, trauma-informed business, and community-led support

For many, safety is a luxury. For Shannon Donnelly, it’s a life mission.

As the founder of Get Personal, Shannon has turned personal trauma into purposeful action—building a business rooted in resilience, protection, and care for others.

Her growing social enterprise offers UK-legal personal safety products with one clear goal: to help vulnerable people feel safer in their everyday lives. But more than that, Shannon is quietly building a new kind of support network—one that blends lived experience with community action, and retail with radical compassion.

A Story of Survival, Strength, and Starting Again

Shannon’s journey is one of courage. Between the ages of 6 and 16, she endured years of sexual abuse at the hands of her stepfather—a trauma that would later lead to his conviction and imprisonment.

When he was released early for good behaviour, Shannon’s sense of safety collapsed again.

> “All the police could offer me was a panic alarm,” she said.
> “And advice not to go out after dark.”

It wasn’t enough. Not for her—and not for the thousands of others navigating life after trauma with little support.

That’s when Shannon decided to build something better.

During lockdown, she launched *Get Personal*—a business offering affordable, UK-legal personal safety tools, with a special focus on supporting women, young people, and survivors of domestic abuse.

About Get Personal: Tools Designed With Real Lives in Mind

Unlike many safety product companies, Shannon’s offer is grounded in real-life experiences and tested needs. Her product range includes:

🔔 Panic Alarms – discreet, loud, and easy to use
💨 Legal spray alternatives – compliant with UK law but still an effective deterrent
📱 Mobile phone safety accessories – to keep devices protected and easy to access
💳 Bank card protection sleeves – preventing tap theft and card scanning
🧵 Discreet safety scrunchies – with hidden zip compartments for keys or notes

All products are available via her website: [www.get-personal.co.uk](https://www.get-personal.co.uk)

Every item Shannon sells is rooted in one simple but powerful belief: everyone deserves to feel safe—wherever they are.

Quietly Giving Back: National Support With Local Heart

While Get Personal serves customers across the UK, Shannon has always made sure to give back behind the scenes.

Over the past few years, she’s:

Donated safety kits to charities supporting survivors of domestic violence and homelessness
Provided mobile phones to women’s shelters
Donated panic alarms and keychains to local youth events and community projects
Supported professionals working with at-risk young people, such as Grimsby’s youth offending team
Taken part in community safety awareness events like Walk in Cleethorpes

Shannon doesn’t shout about her impact. But behind every donation is a deep personal commitment to helping others feel less alone.

Growing Roots in Grimsby: A New Chapter of Local Collaboration

In a recent meeting with Jose Davies from *Our Future*, Shannon shared her desire to deepen her work in North East Lincolnshire. While Get Personal has largely operated online until now, she’s ready to create more meaningful community connections—and contribute to the area that shaped her.

Together, Shannon and Jose discussed ideas for:

Building partnerships with local women’s organisations
Collaborating with youth groups, schools, and safe spaces
Connecting with civic leaders and public health champions
Launching a local donation point or pantry for people experiencing domestic violence or housing insecurity

Shannon is particularly interested in working with local businesses who want to support safety-led social enterprises as part of their CSR efforts.

> “I know what it’s like to feel unsafe and unseen,” she says.
> “If I can help even one person feel safer—whether that’s through a product, a kit, or just a kind word—it’s worth it.”
